  • Jackson Harvey

    The story

Caring for his sick grandfather and volunteer work at an aged care facility set Jackson on his pathway to a career in health and aged care. “These experiences opened my eyes to how much of an impact nurses have on patients and their families,” he says. “I wanted to make a difference to people going through the hardships of major health problems.”

    The success

Jackson completed a school-based traineeship, which saw him learn on the job at his local hospital one day a week. His traineeship counted as points towards his HSC, meaning he graduated with his higher school certificate and TAFE NSW Certificate III at the same time. “The traineeship provided me with employment and expanded the network of managers and supervisors who might consider me as an employee in the future,” he says.
